e-Invoicing Middleware vs. ASP: What's the Difference?

e-Invoicing middleware is the integration layer that connects an ERP or accounting system to one or more certified ASPs, normalizing and validating invoice data before it is submitted. An Accredited Service Provider (ASP) is an entity accredited by the UAE Ministry of Finance under Ministerial Decision No. 64 of 2025 to transmit validated e-invoices onto the UAE's Peppol-based e-invoicing network. TAQATUA is middleware — it is not an ASP, and it does not submit invoices directly to the network or the FTA.

Your ERP creates the invoice. TAQATUA reads that data, normalizes it into a canonical format, and validates it against FTA and Peppol (PINT AE) schema rules. The certified ASP then transmits the validated invoice onto the UAE e-invoicing network and on to the buyer and the FTA, per the accredited 5-corner model. Each layer has a distinct, non-overlapping responsibility.

Middleware and ASPs are not alternatives to each other — they solve different problems in the same compliance chain. An ASP is required by regulation to reach the UAE e-invoicing network at all.
