Peppol Integration in the UAE: The 5-Corner Model Explained
How the international Peppol e-invoicing network was adapted for the UAE’s FTA mandate — and how TAQATUA connects your ERP into it.
What Is Peppol?
Peppol (Pan-European Public Procurement Online) is an international network and document standard for exchanging structured e-invoices between businesses, already used across Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Japan. Rather than every business integrating directly with every trading partner, Peppol standardizes the document format and routes it through certified Access Points — so one connection to the network lets a business exchange invoices with anyone else on it.
The 5 Corners, Explained
The 5 Corners, Mapped
Each corner has one job. A structured invoice moves through all five before it’s considered delivered and reportable.
Corner 1 — Supplier ERP (Issuer)
Corner 2 — Sender ASP (Validates & Transmits)
Corner 3 — Peppol Network / FTA e-Billing
Corner 4 — Receiver ASP (Verifies & Routes)
Corner 5 — Buyer ERP (Receiver)
How the UAE Adapted the Peppol Model
The UAE Federal Tax Authority built its e-invoicing program on the Peppol 5-corner architecture, adapted locally with the PINT AE (Peppol International Invoice — UAE) format and a direct feed into the FTA’s own e-Billing system for real-time tax reporting. The result keeps the interoperability benefits of Peppol — one standard, many trading partners — while giving the FTA a structured, auditable copy of every in-scope transaction as it happens.
Where TAQATUA Sits in the 5-Corner Chain
TAQATUA operates at Corner 1: it’s the connector between your ERP (the issuer) and the certified Access Point / ASP that carries your invoice into the network. TAQATUA normalizes your ERP’s invoice data into the PINT AE structure, validates it against Peppol schema rules before submission, and hands it to your certified ASP for transmission.
TAQATUA is not a Peppol Access Point or Accredited Service Provider (ASP) in its own right. We integrate your ERP with the certified ASP that operates the access point on your behalf.
Peppol vs. Direct FTA Reporting
Some tax authorities use a direct, centralized reporting model where businesses submit invoices straight to a government portal. The UAE’s Peppol-based model is decentralized: certified ASPs handle validation and transmission, and the FTA receives a structured copy for compliance monitoring rather than acting as the transmission channel itself. For your business, this means the quality of your ASP relationship — and the data your ERP feeds it — matters as much as the government mandate itself.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Peppol only used in Europe?
No. Peppol started in Europe but is now used in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Japan, and now the UAE, among others, each adapting the standard to local tax requirements.
What does PINT AE mean?
PINT AE stands for Peppol International Invoice — UAE, the UAE-localized structured invoice format built on the international PINT specification.
Does my business need to connect to Peppol directly?
No. Your business connects through a certified ASP, which operates the Peppol Access Point on your behalf. TAQATUA integrates your ERP with that ASP.
Is TAQATUA a Peppol Access Point?
No. TAQATUA is middleware that connects your ERP to the certified ASP operating as your Peppol Access Point — it is not itself an accredited access point or ASP.
